173I Mural monument for Thomas BAKER, d. 1782, and his wives, Marthanna, d. 1780 and Ann, d. 1804

-  Chancel, North wall, East end.

-  142(W) x 282(H)~Very good; drapery lost (lower right).

-  In white marble on a black baseplate with pointed top; mourning figure in relief; draped urn on a wreathed pedestal; below, a white M.I. on a tablet set landscape-wise, flanked by yellow half-columns with Ionic capitals on scroll corbels with acanthus decoration; above, a cornice; below, a black curved apron from the baseplate with drapes and escutcheon; foliate corbel at foot.

-  Thomas Baker, Esq., of the Lower House and London (Grocer's Co.), High Sheriff of Sussex in 1775, d. 25 Jun 1782, aet 53, no issue; second son of George and Philadelphia Baker of Mayfield Place; his first wife, Marthanna, d. 27 Nov 1780, aet 59, daughter of George and Sarah Baker of Warbleton; his second wife, Ann, d. 11 Dec 1804, aet 81, daughter of John and Hannah Baker of the Middle House, Mayfield; all buried at Mayfield.
